Websphere Application Server

Websphere Application Server (WAS) is a core web delivery platform for Blue Tree custom built applications.

Websphere is the leading business on demand application tool and is an IBM product.  See http://www-01.ibm.com/software/websphere/.

Blue Tree has completed various projects using WAS. These are geared towards large commercial applications where the need for a full browser functioning application is required.

Websphere MQ

Enterprise integration management tool - built for robustness, volume processing and persistence

Blue Tree has worked extensively with Websphere MQ - client and server.  Our experience dates back to the original MQ Series.

The use of Websphere MQ is important as many organisations have adopted this tool as the core of the messaging layer between multiple and diverse applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does WAS work with Domino?

WAS and Domino are platforms developed by IBM.  As they come from the same company the 2 products are easy to integrate and facilitate high performance web delivery and content management.

The decision to use the Domino HTTP stack or to deploy WAS is dependent on various factors - i.e. the organisations software strategy, the architecture deployed, possibly the methodoglogy used and licensing.

A full Domino license provides entitlement to WAS, for access to Domino data stored in a NSF file.  This means that strategically, the move to WAS for Domino applications is easy to do and will not incur additional costs for the organisation.

WAS and Domino can run on the same machine - obviously this is conditional on the hardware having sufficient resources to deal with the load of browser based applications.

Finally, horses for courses is relevant.  With the emergence of XPages and Web2.0 components in Domino, the drive to deploy WAS needs to be compelling.  To meet this criteria, the final decision would be the organisations defined browser delivery platform.  If this is defined as WAS, then WAS makes sense.

How do Domino and Websphere MQ work together?

Both products are from IBM.  Blue Tree has developed a standard utility that integrates Domino and Websphere MQ.
