Linux support and management
Blue Tree operates different applications on multiple platforms. Key to these, however, is Linux.
Linux provides the following benefits:
Lower total cost of ownership - a true open source operating platform without licensing costs.
Better leverage against fixed assets - as Linus has less overhead on the actual server hardware, the benefit to the organisation is that the existing servers can carry a higher workload and stay in service for a longer period of time.
Improved anti-virus functions - due to the nature of malicious software, the majority of which does not operate on a Linux platform, the organisation enjoys better protection from viruses.
As all of the Blue Tree software packages, custom built and those supplied by other vendors, such as IBM Lotus Notes, Blue Tree has developed key Linux skills, who can install, configure and manage Linux across the organisation. This includes running core Linux components, security and networking around the use of Linux.
Desktop support
Core desktop support services, including Windows and Linux.
Blue Tree currently supports multiple desktop platforms for different organisations.
For this to work effectively, Blue Tree continuously runs an inhouse research and development centre and from this Blue Tree has defined standards applied to different desktop configurations.
Blue Tree version 1
This version of the desktop is the standard Microsoft desktop configuration that allows organisations to work with full access to the desktop, on condition of secure user login - this means a seperation of roles from the user login to the administrator login. Control is managed through specific custom elements such as limited access to web sites, security software, etc.
Blue Tree version 2
This version of the desktop utilised the Blue Tree secure desktop deployment for Microsoft desktops. This desktop removes all core functionality from the user and the user only has access to the applications the organisation authorises. The benefits of this is removal of access to certain ports on the machine, icons on the desktop and the enforcement of certain software standards. This reduces the risk of spyware, malicious software and improves desktop security in the event of theft.
Blue Tree Ubuntu version 1
Blue Tree utilises and supports the use of Ubuntu Linux as a desktop operating system. The benefits are the use of open source software, reduce total cost of ownership and the use of open source application, such as Lotus Symphony or Star Office for the user base. In addition, various software vendors provide world leading software for core business applications such as Lotus Notes email and application software.
